Empanadas in Chicago
Empanadas come in many forms. Their origin seems to be Galician or Catalonian, and the variants spread with the Spanish "discovery of the New World". So named because 5411 is the international dialing code for Buenos Aires, this establishment seeks to offer Chicago authentic Argentinian style empanadas - wheat dough baked with a pastry fold pattern to differentiate the different flavors.
It was started in 2009 as delivery only, then came a food truck...and finally in 2012 - brick and mortar. Now they have 5 Chicago locations, with a branch each in Houston and Miami. It's a great example of "doing your one thing and doing it well."
I haven't encountered a bad flavor combo yet, but the ones above are some of the best:
- Bacon, Dates & Goat Cheese
- BBQ Chicken
- Chorizo & Patatas Bravas
